If you have purchased a Voice+Data SIM Card or a Voice+Data eSIM, you will be provided with access to a voicemail service.
The voicemail feature will be enabled by default but please note that the voicemail service will only become functional once your Voice+Data SIM / eSIM has been fully activated.
Instructions on how to use the voicemail feature can vary (depending on the specific Mobal product you are using) and so for additional information, please refer to the relevant guide below –

Once your Voice+Data SIM Card has been fully activated, the voicemail feature will be enabled automatically.
Important Note: As our products do not support international roaming, it will only be possible to access the voicemail service / retrieve voicemail messages while in Japan.
Accessing Voicemail:
To access the voicemail service, simply dial 1416 from your device and follow the voice prompts.
The voice prompts may initially be spoken in Japanese and so after dialing 1416, please follow the steps below to change the voice prompts to English:
– Press 2 at the first prompt
– Press 1 at the second prompt
– Press 2 to switch the prompts to English
Please note that calls to the voicemail service will be chargeable at the rate of a standard domestic call within Japan. For instructions on how to check the usage rates for your Mobal plan, visit the following link: Usage Rates Guide
Voicemail Notifications:
When a voicemail message has been left for you, you would usually receive a text message from the number: 1414
Please note that the message may be in Japanese but you should still be able to retrieve the voicemail message by following the instructions below.
Voicemail Retrieval:
To retrieve a voicemail message, simply dial: 1416
We can confirm that there will be no initial charge when a voicemail message has been left for you. If you retrieve the message however (by dialing 1416), please be advised that you will be charged the standard rate for placing an outbound domestic phone call.

Disabling / Reactivating Voicemail:
If you would like to disable the voicemail feature, you can do so by calling: 0800-919-4006
Please note that the automated messages / voice prompts will be in Japanese. Once the call has connected and you have heard the announcement in Japanese, please enter the following code on your keypad: 400#
After entering this code and hearing the announcement in Japanese, you can then disconnect the call as your voicemail service should now be inactive.
When you are ready to reactivate the service, dial the same number again (0800-919-4006) and enter the following code on your keypad: 431#
You can then enter one of the following codes on the keypad to choose how long you would like the call to ring before it’s diverted to voicemail –
Press 1 – For 5 second ring time
Press 2 – For 10 second ring time
Press 3 – For 15 second ring time
Press 4 – For 20 second ring time
Press 5 – For 25 second ring time
Press 6 – For 30 second ring time

After dialing this code, any new voicemail messages will be played automatically –
- Press # on the keypad to skip to the next message
- Press 1 on the keypad to repeat the message
- Press 2 on the keypad to save the message
- Press 3 to delete the message
Other Useful Codes:
As mentioned above, you can retrieve a voicemail message / access your voicemail inbox by dialing: 1417
If you need to change your voicemail message (i.e. the message that contacts hear when reaching your voicemail), you can do so by dialing: 1458
Deactivate the voicemail feature by dialing: 1410
Reactivate voicemail feature by dialing: 1411
Please note that calls to any of the numbers above will be chargeable at the standard rate for placing an outbound domestic phone call.
