How Contacts Send You SMS Messages

For information on the phone number you have been assigned and the dialing procedures your contacts will be required to use, please refer to each of the guides below –

Once your Voice+Data SIM / eSIM has been fully activated, you will be assigned a standard Japanese phone number with a prefix of 070, 080 or 090.

The phone number will be provided to you in a confirmation email but it will also be available on your Mobal online account (MyAccount).

In the documentation provided however, you may notice that the Japanese phone number is in the international format (starting with the Japan country code prefix of 81 which replaces the leading zero).

For contacts that wish to send you an SMS Text Message, the dialing procedure will vary (depending on their location / the type of phone number they are texting you from) and so please refer to the guides below.

Contacts sending you an SMS text message from another Japanese phone number can simply enter your standard phone number with the 070, 080 or 090 prefix.

If you have been assigned a phone number that starts with 8170… on your account for example, contacts with a Japanese phone number would just replace “81” with a “0” and so they would just dial 070 followed by the rest of your number.

Texts From International Cell Phone Numbers:

Contacts sending you an SMS text message from an international cell phone number would be required to enter a plus symbol “+” followed by the Country Code for Japan (which is 81) and then they would enter the rest of your phone number with the leading zero removed.

If you have been assigned a phone number with a prefix of 070 for example, contacts messaging you from an international cell phone number would dial +8170 followed by the rest of the number.
